Jan 16 - the Brasil Side
We started with an early morning flight so wake up call was 2:30 AM. We flew from Buenos Aires to Iguazú. The driver picked us up at 4:10 and we were at the airport by 4:30. The check in went smoothly and we had time to get a coffee and some pastry.before the flight.
We landed by 8:45 and were picked up and driven to our hotel. After lunch we were picked up for the Brasil Falls tour. We had to pass thru customs which was kind of fun. Everyone out of the bus and wait in line and get our passport stamped and our Brasil visas checked and then back into the van.
The drive from the border took about 45 minutes and then we were at the top of hill opposite the falls. They stretch from Brasil across to Argentina at least 3 miles. There is a huge fault that lifted up about 200 million years ago and the falls were created at that time.
After seeing all the pictures and videos it was still a very special moment looking across to this huge line of waterfalls roaring water with mist swirling up into small clouds. There were a few breaks but the falls seem to continue across the horizon.
We started down a path on the hillside paralleling the falls. Each portion showed a different view of the falls. Some sections were very tall while others dropped a shorter distance then flowed across a shelf before plunging again.
We took so many pictures and videos but it was still hard to grasp the size and power of this wonderful feature of nature. Along the way we also so linked and butterflies and lizards and flowers. It is a sub tropical rainforest so it is filled with all kinds to life.
We finished at the devil’s throat which is one of the most spectacular sets of falls built in a half circle plunging down from all sides. We called very close to one side and the sound was a continuous roar at high volume. It was a very special moment.
Then up the elevator and we headed home.
