Ready to Go!

 It’s Sunday Jan 11 and we leave tomorrow the 12th  for Houston then on to Buenos Aires.  We land  around 9 in the morning on the 13th and we have the rest of the day free to get acclimated.  We will be five hours ahead of California.  

The 49ers defeated the Eagles this afternoon and we enjoyed the game at Granite Bay Golf Course.  This
means we will be taking our Brock Purdy jerseys along with us on the trip.  Go NINERS.  

Our bags look like they are stuffed but we have done this enough times to m ow we will be fine.  We have to stay under 46 yards and in the end we did a great job keeping our weight down.  

We are very excited to begin our trip to Antarctica.

Welcome to Buenos Aires

The trip started on Monday morning and ended about noon on Tuesday when we arrived at our hotel.  Overall things went smoothly with a 3 hour layover in Houston followed by a 9 hour flight to Buenos Aires.  We got some sleep on the long flight but also had to get up every couple of hours to stretch our legs.  We landed around 9 and were driven into the city with a driver and a guide.  After getting into our room we headed our to see our local neighborhood which was fun and had a very young vibe,  we had lunch and dinner at a fun Italian place with some short walks to stay awake,  It’s 8 PM and we will be in bed by 9.   What a wonderful way to start our trip!

Jan 25 - JASON HARBOUR & GODTHUL

Our first day in South Georgia was outstanding! The weather was wonderful - broken clouds with sun - and the temperature reached into the 50s. The crew were laughing that they never see weather this good. We landed at Jason Harbor which was named after a boat that visited this place in the 1800s. It was a bay surrounded by snow covered peaks and it was teeming with life. Penguins and seals and elephants seals and birds in great numbers. This was a cruising day which allowed us to see as much as possible as quickly as possible. We had Paul as our zodiac driver and he was a wealth of knowledge. We started with a run close to a building which was used as a post office in centuries past. The whaling stations which were north of this bay would bring their mail down to this building and it would then get picked up and taken to Grytviken for forwarding. Jan 15 - Visiting a Ranch

  Today we were driven out to a working ranch that also does tours.  The drive was smooth and we looked out over the countryside and learned about the people and the history.  The pampas is pretty flat and mostly used for grazing but we did see some corn and soybean fields.   When we arrived at the ranch we boarded a one horse buggy for a ride around the property.  A grandfather and his grandson handled the reins and we slowly plodded around the area.  Many of the other tourists rose horses but we weren’t excited about that opportunity.   Next we had a quick snack of empanadas which are a national delicacy of Argentina.  The one we had were beef and the flavor was wonderful.  Then we had a break before lunch so we walked the huge property and checked out the beautiful trees - one of which is over 200 years old.  The meal was about 10 courses long with every form of meat available.
